In Dark Knight Returns, Batman teams up with Green Arrow, who is missing an arm. The implication is that Superman took it off of him, so he couldn't be an archer any more, because he wouldn't register with the government oslt (the way Marvel's doing with Civil Wars right now.) Oliver said "I owe him one. It still hurts when it rains."

After that, GA used his remaining hand to fire a Kryptonite dust arrow at Supes, while he was distracted after being hit by half a dozen missiles. Then Batman plugged into the Gotham power grid and used his exoskeleton to kick the big red S up one side of Crime Alley and down the other. "Where would I have gotten Kryptonite...? It would take years, and cost a fortune... Luckily, I had both." The implication is that Superman no longer trusted Batman and took away the K ring that he had gotten from Luthor, but Waynetech scientist had learned enough about Kryptonite to be able to synthesize it.

Anyhow, I'm not sure if he used his heat vision or not, but he certainly took Ollie's arm off.
