This might come as a shock, but I think we should stop celebrating Christmas...

First, as Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of the birth of Christ (Christ's Mass), December 25th could be a huge error, because we have no historical or Biblical context for assuming that was the day Jesus was born....

Second, what was supposed to have been a revered holiday has become a retail circus. The message of Christmas has gotten lost in commercialism and the spirit of Christmas has been overwhelmed by Credit Card Debt.

Don't get me wrong... I love getting presents as much as anyone else (please note: Jill, if you are reading this, I don't really want a fondue set... I was just joking). But we should find another name for the holiday if we are going to continue to celebrate December 25th... because it is certainly not a day that we in this country regard as a HOLY Day (unless you're thinking HOLY CRAP, LOOK AT THE SALES).

Easter is such a confused holiday. It really has so little meaning.
St. Patrick's Day is a drinking holiday, which I don't discount. But if we only get one Holiday we could do better.
Cinco De Mayo, despite what it once meant, is also only an excuse to drink.
The 4th of July while very patriotic in flavor is a celebration of of some of the worst aspects of America.
I love Halloween and it comes a close second for sure. We don't have nearly enough escapism in our lives and we could all use reminders that Winter is Comming.
Christmas while good natured has turned into such a horrible ordeal that we need time to recouperate.
New Years is a nice way of acknowledging the passage of time with friends but it's just a different take on birthdays.
Religious holidays are fine if that's your thing
Vetrans day, Memorial day, President's day.. pretty much weekend stretchers in the grand scheme of things.

I'd keep Thanksgiving. It can be really easy for us to take our families for granted. For a lot of us, if it we didn't have to face our Family every thanksgiving we wouldn't be nearly so nice to them. I don't like Turkey and I don't think we need to eat more than we do but there is something very satisfying about a feast with friends and family.

There are lots of holidays that are not really ever "celebrated". I mean how many people have a columbus day tree decorated with little boats? On the other hand, there are communities who have a columbus day parade. Columbus did not discover America though. Lief Eriksson was here 500 years before and native americans were here all along.

I have to wonder how many of these people who say Christmas should not be celebrated will NOT be buying trees and presents. My bet is ZERO.

Christmas because it is too commercialized and it's a time of sadness for many people. Casimer Pulaski day-this was never celebrated when I was in school. Halloween is the only holiday I like.

Valentine's Day. It's pretty lame if you think about it. If you don't have a partner then you are pretty much left out of this holiday, and even if you have a partner, do you really need a day to go and blow a lot of money to prove your love?

christmas because:

-its out of hand
-commercialism
-santa claus (Ill just leave it at that)
-other people make you obligated to buy them stuff, rather than giving.
-Besides the cozy fire (which sounds nice right now because Im sick) and lights, i would prefer to not celebrate it, though I am the only one out of my whole family, so maybe I'll become a hermit and live in the woods somewhere.

Thanksgiving because the Native Americans weren't thankful for all of the diseases the europeans brought to them(among other things) and the 4th of July for African Americans because we weren't independent.

St Andrew's Day.

We are to get rid of one of our summer holidays, and replace it with November 30th.

Nice one, SNP.

Columbus Day. First off, he wasn't the first to discover the American continent and secondly, all he did was capture slaves and bring disease..
