I followed an advice i saw on yahoo answers that you must put an absorbent paper and iron on that for the wax to melt and be absorbed. While much of the wax has been absorbed, there is still an oily/greasy stain.Can it not be removed completely?

Try ironing BROWN paper with the shiny side up

I have been using hair shampoo on oil/ butter / grease / with great results - use the type with/out conditioner / just really cheap shampoo. Candle wax may be petrolem based - it might work.

Try cornmeal, powder, ground chalk or baking soda. All are absorbent. Sprinkle. rub in and let stay for a day or so. If stain atill remains, apply again.That's baby powder.

Pots and pan liquid detergent, Dish washing liquid detergent and dish washing machine liquid detergents are all good and can be used . May need overnight soaking and or repeat operation.
