My husband is from alexandria and I'm wondering if it is just that area of egypt that ppl. tend to be this way (yes, I know that not everyone is the same, but there are trends. For example, the ppl. in the southern part of the the u.s.a. or the midwest have a less hurried lifestyle than californians like me):

when something important such as paperwork for the immigration process for schooling needs to be worked on by the egyptian who "really wants to come to america" because they complain of life in egypt going nowhere, they don't do much about it other than talk about it. Talk does not cook rice and patience of those willing to help is not eternal.

My husband explained to me that there is a lot of mental depression egypt and that people are accoustumed to government offices doing paperwork in egypt taking forever, they are stuck in their current lifes position forever and the economic situation for those who aren't government officials or policemen isn't as convenient as U.S.

This is the third question I see from you so far that criticizes either the system or the people in Egypt. If your husband is from Alexandria then you surely know how Alexandrians are more that I do because I live in Cairo.
We do have our troubles in Egypt, but we also have our qualities and if you do not enjoy living among Egyptians try to get your husband to America and maybe when you see how American prejudice and intolerance delay your steps for immigration you'll realize that there are bad sides to every country in the world.

I think that this is true to a point. My ex-husband is also from Alex and I am an American, He is very motivated and hard working. He was the youngest regional and district manager at a major pharmaceutical company. And now he has his own company.
As for the mental depression this may be true, but also consider that comping to America is a very scary major life change. From what I have seen most Egyptians stay very close to their family and are guided throughout their whole life by their parents to a degree that most Americans would find oppressive. My mother in law had to examine every clothing purchase I made, comment on its quality and price and then tell me where I should have gone instead. What would I have done without her. LOL. Egyptians though seem to have been told what to think their entire lives, everything from religion to food, clothing and even where to go on our vacations were available for comment. Mido never seemed to question them at all. Islam is the religion because it is it. He learned about Islam but never questioned why he believed in it, never learned about any other religions. These things make a person stronger willed and firmer in their own belief's but they are not taught this. If he was this far away from home, he would be faced with many decisons and questions, maybe he feels the temptations are too much.
As for the government taking too long with paperwork this is only true to a point, in Egypt with a small bribe anything can be done in an amazingly short time.
I dont know if this is true in your case but it certainly was true in mine.

I don't know about Alexandria or any other parts of egypt. But I'm sure that it is the same with most under-developed/developing countries.. People get used to the way their countries function, and tend to find the easy way out, rather than correct the real problem.

The delays in paperwork happens a lot in India too.. But everyone is resigned to it, and many (almost all) end up bribing the officials to get things through quickly.. So much so that for any government related work, even the simplest of the simple things (like getting a photocopy of a document attested as accurate), people mentally allocate a budget for bribes...

Everyone complains about it, but hardly any one does anything about it. But there are a few exceptional people who try to make a difference.. Non-governmet Organizations, some media networks, some individuals who want to bring about a change... And it is through them that society slowly gets over such practices...
