Does anyone else think that people who are obsessed with celebrities may be missing something from their own life?

The word "celebrity" really does bug the hell out of me. Sorry to be a nerd, but surely the word derives from "celebrate". By that rationelle, in order to become a celebrity, does one not have to do something worth celebrating?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but being the slight-lesser annoying contestant on a reality TV show is not worth celebrating, and therefore the winners of, say, Big Brother are not in the strictest sense celebrities.
In fact, the only people that you could call celebrities are doctors and nurses, firemen, astronaughts (some of the anyway), and, if I'm being generous, actors who have won awards.
Yeah, that's my two bits anyway. Sorry I didn't really answer your question, it's just one of my hot buttons.

People are obssessed with celebrities cuz they r rich, famous, popular, get attention from guys easily, 'do stuff which we can just dream of'(u must have heard this from many ppl, it's wayy annoying) y? cuz ppl think celebs r hotties and r born for nothing but fame and happiness and wealth(although it's not true) v can do a whole lot more(if v try) there r ppl who r prettier than Vanessa Hudgens, Paris Hilton(she's not really pretty, so i'm talking about wat other ppl think), Lindsay Lohan and many other. And trust me, v think(celebs show) that they r all happy and stuff, but do u really believe it? Like normal humans they too experience pain, suffer and unhappiness. Am I right?

I think people are obsessed with celebs because they have nothing better to do or have crushes on celebrities. I have to admit though, I do watch vh1 Famous Life of Celebs, but I think your going overboard once you begin pasting pictures of them all over your stuff. Another reason is because they appear in the media so much, its hard to not see them.

It's a psychological/ appearance factor. The truth is it's not just white guys who like Asians but if you ask around a lot of people seem to have a thing for cute Asian girls. The reason is they have a decent natural look and unlike a lot of other girls, they seem to know how to work with makeup and cosmetic based from their family traditions. This is a little biased, but it seems most other girls don't have the same kind of skills in terms of their appearance.

People are obsessed with celebrities because they want to be like them. To some, celebrities repersent perfection. They are beautiful, in shape, wealthy, and well-accepted in society. Everyone wants acceptance in some form and celebrities get it in abundance.

Honestly? I have no clue and I don't get it. I think it is just cause they are bored. My friends are all obsessed with some celeb guy and I'm like -.- Are you done?
They are still just people.

Two terms: transference and projection.
Transference - because they think that the attributes of that celebrity is actually part of their attributes, too.
Projection - because they see themselves to have the same attributes that the celebrity has, and the same troubles, the same concerns... and they identify closely with them.

designer clothes,financial freedom,beautiful houses,and celebrity friends.
