I am so tired of hearing people complain about how the Shelby County rabies officers have abused power. I can see not wanting someone to peek in the windows of my house, but I hope everyone realizes that for years, the utility companies have been letting themselves into your back yards uninvited to read your meters. I see no problem with a rabies officer doing the same. All pets are required to be vaccinated - not just the free-roaming ones.

I, for one, am glad Shelby County has finally taken some initiative to protect our animals and humans. In my area, I have seen too many uncared-for animals roaming around, and I seriously doubt their owners bother to have them vaccinated. It saddens me when a pet has the misfortune to be chosen by a human who doesn't care enough to vaccinate, spay or neuter, properly house and adequately feed his pets. If all you have to offer an animal is a bowl of water and a rope tied to a tree, please get a fern instead.

I agree with you completely! The reason some people don't like officers checking them out is because they may have something to hide. Some people also are afraid of being judged by complete strangers.Animals are considered private property by some, and some may feel they can do or not do whatever they want with them.Animal cruelty can come into play here!Just look at the news headlines about how badly people are treating their own children let alone their pets!!!
