I want to become a tattoo artist, and not because of shows like Miami Ink. I have a couple tattoo's from some different artists. The last artist I went to was really good. I asked him if anyone had apprenticed under him, and he repiled yes, and that he charged him like 8,000 dollars. This seems a bit too much. I do understand that they are training you for a career, but I've people not charging for an apprenticeship. Is this true or not and what could sway a person to not charge for an apprenticeship?

My fiance was a tattoo apprentice for a while. He barely made any money doing it. They technically don't have to pay you for being an apprentice. Since my fiance was considered the secretary also, he got paid a little, but not much! You are there to learn as an apprentice, not to get paid. That's just the truth! Sorry!

not at sixteen. i may well be surprised if that have been the case in any state. If I even have been responsible of a tattoo save, that's what i might say.... Spend here 2 years drawing and portray lots so which you will build up a nicely portfolio. Then while you're a authorized grownup, aka 18, bypass to shops and exhibit your stuff and ask to stumble upon and learn and with slightly of luck finally end up an apprentice.

If you can't pay someone then you need to find a shop that is willing to apprentice you while you do all the gopher work and dirty jobs around the shop. If you can draw good flash...that's a bonus. But the most important thing is that you have some skillz. all of us tattoo artists wanna disciple the next legendary ink singer...and for all I know you might be him.
