I just bought a Miata, thinking it was fun fast and a great little roadster.. but now I notice everyone on the road rides my azz or bullies me on the road. Last night I had a guy do some weird move and then pull beside me and then ride my azz! I dont even know what I did, I was just driving the speed limit listening to music. Is the Miata thought of as prey on the road?? Should I have bought a HUMMER or something?? Do I look like a dork, a big guy in a small roadster? hahaha... thanks

When driving in a small car, you really need to keep your situational awareness up at all times. Idiots in their humongous SUVs can't see you. It's very similar to what motorcyle riders have to deal with every day on the road, but safer since you have (half) a cage around you.

When all is said and done, you actually have the safer car. The car's excellent handling and increased need for situational awareness gives you "active safety" that is much better than any passive safety device. Is it better to get hit and live, or not get hit at all? Your Miata gives you a much better chance of avoiding accidents as long as you keep your wits about you.

Enjoy the car, and screw what other people think or do. You bought the car that revitalized the sports car market.

I go through this everyday on my motorcycle. The best thing you can do is make yourself more visiable, and upgrade to a set of airhorns. The stock Miata horn is WEAK. Get a nice set of airhorns (or a very loud electric horn) from AutoZone or similar auto parts store for under $40 bucks. It will become a lifesaver. If you car is a dark color, some people opt to put reflective stripes on the back and front bumpers, but I personally think they are ugly. A slightly (not boyracer!!) louder exhaust will also let people know you are there.

A miata? isn't that another name for speed bump?

That is the problems of having a small car in a SUV world. That guy trying to run you down was really a soccer mom talking on the phone while putting on eye liner on her way to pick up the kids. She didn't even see you.

I would love to own that car. Problem is lots of practical issues with it. Security and pollution to site some. Basically I figure those guys envy your air in the hair experience and suspect that you are showing off. Ignore them in the sense that you can do nothing its a zen thing. But pay attention to what they are doing most of this guys are morons. Take note I mention guys. Its a testorone thing. Most gals would think you cute. big guy in small car.
