I want to become a tattoo artist, and not because of shows like Miami Ink. I have a couple tattoo's from some different artists. The last artist I went to was really good. I asked him if anyone had apprenticed under him, and he repiled yes, and that he charged him like 8,000 dollars. This seems a bit too much. I do understand that they are training you for a career, but I've people not charging for an apprenticeship. Is this true or not and what could sway a person to not charge for an apprenticeship?

My fiance was a tattoo apprentice for a while. He barely made any money doing it. They technically don't have to pay you for being an apprentice. Since my fiance was considered the secretary also, he got paid a little, but not much! You are there to learn as an apprentice, not to get paid. That's just the truth! Sorry.

tattoo is art. you would be training under an artist. He must be really good, and pretty famous to charge that much, but if he is then you have his name and work going for you when you get on your own, everyone knowing who you were instructed by and his work, this will give you credentials and business.
