Begin by establishing the target of your importance. Important for yourself? For your family? For strangers? Once you figure out "for whom," develop a sense of what your targets value and need. Good listening and communication skills are helpful for this. A developed sense of observation and nuance can also help. In effect, it's good to be able to "read" other people and their cultures. Once you're tuned in to the people for whom you can be important, you have much of what you need. Don't forget to let other people be important to you, as well. This is crucial to building good relationships.

Try your best to never lie.
It relieves any and all burdens and fears. That is the problem every one has is that they can't quit lying about anything and everything.
But you will feel so much better about yourself when you realize there is no real reason why you should ever lie.
