I once spent big bucks for the best Nortons internet and antivirus program they had. I upgraded it every day before I went surfing on the net and still got a virus and a trojan worm. Nortons didn't find it , it came up when I was doing some other work on the pc with the help of the company I bought a scanner from.

I went to my local nerd shop where a guy just makes a living fixing PCs and he put me onto AVG. I installed it and it found and quarantined the trojan and the virus that Nortons missed. I emailed Nortons and they were unapologetic. I told them to cancel my upgrades and return the unused portion of the program I paid for. They never did.

My friend told me tthat virus writers like to aim for the programs that are in the widest use so their beloved little monster can infect the most machines and so they target imperfections in Nortons and McAfee and any others they consider "big".

AVG on the other hand is just a little guy. (For now) so virus writers don't usually look for ways to bypass it, they concentrate their viruses on the ones that are the most popular.

AVG is the one for me.

I`d strongly advise against going for a cheaper option like this. Antivirus is the single most important investment you can make especially if you are using the web. The Norton packages can usually be found on special offer somewhere from £24 ($40) upwards.

AVG is the one.

Avast, Avira, Clamwin and AOL are pretty good too. Comodo isn't popular.
