I am fifteen and I tore it almost three months ago. I already went through physical therapy, but I'm getting mixed results from my therapist and my doctor. My doctor says it's fine for me to run as long as I wear my brace. My therapist says that I'll have to ask my doctor and she's not really keen on letting me play any sports yet.

My muscles can grow stronger. So my question is, can I start sprinting when I am strong enough? Especially during conditioning for tennis? I can't wait until I get back into the game!

I can't have surgery until my bones have fully grown out, which my doc says is about 16-17.

Yes and no. When your doc says you can start running, I seriously doubt he meant that you could run the 5k marathon and then do some 500 yard sprints. Ease yourself back into it, and BE CAREFUL. If you feel too much pain, stop. You could rish tearing your ACL again.

Try staying away from tennis for the time being, because it causes you to twist and turn, which can put undue strain on your ACL.

Running, however, does not twist your knee, so it should be ok to do. No sprints.

From one competitive horse rider (hunter/jumper here although working on getting my appy into Dressage) Please take it easy until you have your surgery. I now that it sucks and to be honest I am really surprised that riding does not hurt your knee as with a complete ACL tear you normally cant do ANYTHING as the pain is WAY to bad. If you really want to insure that you do not do anymore damage to your knee so that the surgery will work I would NOT do the spinning class. I know how much it SUCKS to have your knees get worse and worse and nothing helps them, I know I have had 10 surgeries on my knees to try and stop the pain and it is just getting worse. I used to be able to ride 1 -2 hours a day 6 days a week ( i have 6 horses ) and now I am lucky on a good day if i can get 30 minutes of walk/trot before I am in to much pain to keep going.

Wait a minute. Did you have knee surgery??? Has your MD evaluated and released you? Why don't you get a clear answer from your MD and go from there. A PT is not an MD and so far as I know, you need to be clear as to why they are saying two different things. It's your knee for life. What do you think is the best for you right now? Listen to the experts and then listen to the voice inside you. You and your body have wisdom. Take care of you, so you can have game. Game is a game, and not your whole life, or the life that is your future.
