Well our dishwasher first broke we took it to a repairer and they fixed it saying it was the thermostat. But when we hooked it back up it still flooded. That was ages ago and I have been thinking about it and was wondering if it had anything to do with the drainage pipe, because I looked under the sink and the pipe coming from the dishwasher goes in the sinks pipes just before it gets to the S bend, any suggestions or answers will be greatly appreciated.

Could this be a simple matter of clogged pipe?

A dishwasher will leak for several reasons. You could have old or bad soap that has lost it's suds inhibitors, a bad door gasket, poorly aligned door, a screw for the bracket at the counter top which keeps the top of the unit from tipping forward when the lower rack full of dishes is pulled onto the door is loose or interfering with door closure, the latch is not latching securely, the inlet valve is not shutting the water off when it is supposed to, the float or float switch is stuck and not stopping the water from coming in when the tub is full, the fill air gap has mineral deposits causing the water to spray out when filling, a hose under the unit is cracked or torn or broken, the motor seal is leaking onto the floor and a roller fastened to the tub is loose allowing water to spray through the screw hole running down the tank onto the floor. There are other reasons but I think these are the most common.

It is not as likely for the drain to be blocked though because the problem with the drain being blocked would only leave you with a tub full of water. If the drain was blocked and the float did not shut the water off then you could have a flood.

Flooding is almost always a blocked drain....I would dump in some Draino(in the sink). If possible run a snake down the drain and check for clogs further away from the S.

Is the flood from the sink or the seals around the door? If the seals are the problem, it should be obvious. It it is the sink then it is def a clogged pipe.

There is NO reason a thermostat would cause drain problems.

Good luck!

It is very likely that the line from the dishwasher to the air gap on top of the sink is plugged. It is a black hose that is connected with a clamp. If you remove the bottom panel. (kick plate) you will see the hose connecting to the pump. If you have a lot of water in the dishwasher remove it before disconnecting the hose. If that is clear and the airgap is clear, then you likely have a bad pump. Checking the hose won't cost you a dime, and it may fix your problem.

Good luck to you.

Get a sponge, and some Dawn. A sink of hot water will help. Then get the yellow pages and look up a repair man.
