A ham is someone who likes to be in the lime light, the center of attention. They use this in reference of small toddlers coming into their own set of characteristics. Like some children like to pose for the camera and make silly faces, whatever, they would say "you are such a ham".

Sometimes babies are very goofy, and silly, because they LOVE the attention they get as a result.....they then are referred to as "such a ham!"

A ham is somebody who seems to be 'on stage' - that is, they try to command a lot of attention, kind of put on a show. People lots of times say 'he's hamming it up' if that person is acting wild in front of a camera, lots of poses and facial expressions, etc.
