Go for a private company job because it has more pay and room for improvement. Only choose the government job if you really want service to the people.

Going for a job with the government or private sector must be evaluated carefully. Salary is, of course, very important; however, so are benefits, vacation time, hours per week, type of position, who will you answer to...in other words, how far down the ladder will you be? Room for advancement? Government jobs are usually more secure, but not necessarily. It all depends on the job and how you perform.

Initially I would say the job with the better pay, but it also depends on what specifcally is the government job. If it is a job that can and or will affect a lot of people in a good way, then yes, if it is just some desk job with entering data, probably not.

Pay is only part of what makes for job satisfaction. I would consider what I would be asked to do, how much enjoyment the job would give me and the future benefits. When we spend as much time as we do with our jobs, it is more important to feel good about the place, the people you work with, the tasks you perform and the feeling you get every morning on waking up than how much you get. I have taken many jobs with less pay but more satisfaction. Then again, I have only myself to support.
