Would you be insulted if someone said you looked like Drew Carey, George Costanza (Jason Alexander) or Newman (Wayne Knight) from Seinfeld?

But pointing out the truth can be an insult can't it? Isn't it rude to point out to a fat person that they are fat?

My policy is: I will not tell a woman she resembles a celebrity unless it is a celebrity who's good-looking or is known for their looks.

It can be an insult but sometimes it's just the truth. Several years ago I had a few people tell me that I looked like the evil girl in a horror movie. Looking at her, I could see some similarity in our features. I don't think I have her creepiness, just her nose. I am fat so being compared to a fat celebrity wouldn't bother me a bit. Ugliness is often in the eye of the beholder and the angle of the camera. I have met identical twins where one was ugly and the other wasn't due to scarring, hair styles, makeup, etc. If you're unsure if the person meant it as an insult, just ask in what way you resemble the other person.
I'd be a little insulted if someone said I looked like any of the guys on your list but that's because I'm a woman. I wouldn't be insulted if they said I looked like Roseanne Barr (I would be insulted if they said I sing like her), Ellen DeGeneres, Condoleeza Rice or Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I would be insultred if they said I look like Martina Navratilova. That's just me though.

I'd say NO, if he/she truly resembles that "ugly celebrity" then its not an insult to point out the obvious. I was watching "Flavor of Love" last sunday and a girl said to me: "People say that I look like 'New York' is it true?" I told her YES, she looked exactly like New York, chubby cheeks and all!

Only if you see it as an insult. You could be overweight and someone could point out that you look like a slender person. Is that an insult or a compliment?

Well, maybe - someone a "friend" told me I looked like Rosanne when she lost all that weight & he SWORE it was a compliment.
Who knows? Not everyone thinks fat people are unattractive.
I have a HUGE crush on Drew Carey, so there.

I don't know. It could be that the person pointing it out doesn't think they are creepy or unattractive. But some people do this sort of think as a vieled insult because they are passive aggressive.

It all matters how you take it. I would just say thank you and be happy that you got compared to a celebrity. There are always different ways of looking at things. ( Pos. or Neg. ) Choose the better one!
