You could have strep throat.
Here are some awesome home remedies that really work.
1) For chest congestion, sore throat from coughing, go into your bathroom and turn on your hot water as hot as it will get. Let the tub fill up and the bathroom fill with steam and just sit in there. It will loosen up your chest, ease your breathing, soothe your trachea, and relax you.
2) Try drinking tea and eating chicken. It's not just a wives' tale that chicken noodle soup helps, it's actually true. There are enzymes and proteins in the chicken that help boost your immune system.
3) NyQuil.
If you check the back of your mouth and you see green, you need to see a doctor, regardless of the fact that you can't pay for it. Go to the ER, the hospital won't care if you send them $5 a month. If you see green or yellow matter in the back of your throat, you could possible have stress, and it could kill you.
If your snot or phlegm is green, this could indicate a sinus infection, so keep track of it and make sure that it doesn't get any worse.
If you have a humidifier, have it run while you sleep, this will help ease your coughing. If you DON'T have a humidifier, you can do what I did when I had pneumonia--I took a rag and wet it with warm wather and laid it on my mouth and nose. The damp air helped ease my coughing.

Well I am sitting here typing to you with the same symptoms.
Drinking a cup of tea at the moment. This soothes my sore throat.
If your nasal discharge is clear it is a good indication that it is allergies. If it is yellow or yellow/green,this indicates a sinus or some other type of bacterial infection going on.
Anyway, the old standby of chicken soup works wonders on a cold or allergies. A vaporizer helps to be able to breathe more freely by adding moisture to the air.
Lots and lots of ideas out there. Just find what works best for you. Hope you feel better soon. I am wishing the same for me right now! :)
