My daughter has nausea with stomach cramps everytime she eats no matter what she eats. She alternates between constipation and diarrhoea constantly. She had her gallbladder out 2yrs ago. Her Doctor advised surgery because of gallstones and said there would be no side effects. Now he says live with it. Does anyone know of any medication that may settle things down.

First of all, she needs a new dr. If he listens to the symptoms and doesn't help to ease them, and told her she'd have no side effects after the surgery, he's a horse's a**. My grandma and aunt both had theirs out, and can't eat anything fatty (my grandma, the rest of her life-she's passed on).
There may be more than meets the eye going on here. Is she following the prescribed diet to the T? Is she taking any meds as prescribed? Is she taking a prescription that is aggravating her symptoms? Has she been tested for liver diseases? Colitis? Irritable boweel syndrome?
Get her a second opinion, basically...

low fat and little and often. My sister has her GB removed 18 months ago - at age 42 - and dropped 5 dress sizes. She looks and feels fantastic and she says it is due to the fact that she has has to modify her eating patterns. She can eat anything she likes now - as long as it is small amounts. She has 5 small meals a day and has no side effects to speak of - other than her life back :-)

i would have your daughter tested for liver disease! gallbladder issues (stones) are an indication for diseases such as NASH or auto-immune hepatitis, iron disease or the more commonly diagnosed disease hepatitis c. either disease could cause her symptoms.

have her stay away from fake sugar, salt, things that contain iron (including red meats and some leafy greens, vitamins ect). low fat diet works best or a diet geared for diabetics....meanwhile, i would certainly march her into the office and demand to know more about why she is experiencing these issues.

I would start with testing her for hepatitis c...over 4 million have it and do not know it. the doctor will have to test for antibodies because it does not show up in a regular lab and it certainly can look "normal" where alt and ast levels are concerned.

good luck to you...prayers your way!

Unfortunately, I know of no medicine to help other than the common ones for individual symptoms.

I have heard of gallbladders growing back.

What I would suggest is diet modification. Now that the gall bladder is gone, it puts extra work on the liver, etc, and so what she used to eat (especially greasy) is just not going to work now.

Have her eat a low fat / no fat diet. The gallbladder produces bile to help break down fats in the stomach. Without it, fats will make her feel very sick.

Peppermint plus by Enzymatic Therapy helped a friend of mine with the same kind of problem. (Check for it at health food stores). Another person I know got relief from drinking MonaVie juice. (go to monavie.com for info). Hope this helps!
