If you're asking how long before you have sex then usually if it is the pill i think about a wk or two but u still need back up. My first pregnancy I was on the pill for less than a month without back up. Anything else maybe about a few days. Its been so long since i started birth control i can't remember exactly

I'm guessing you're asking how long before having sex do you need to take birthcontrol so that it is effective?
If so, they recomend being on the birth control for one month and still use another form of contraception such as condoms during that time. If this is the first time the girl is using the pill or whatever BC she chooses, i'd say maybe a little longer. However as a reminder, birth control does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or HIV... and is not always 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. So i'd use condoms always as well as the pill.

If you are prescribed the pill or some other form of hormonal birth control, you will get a pamphlet with this sort of information. It says that you should wait at least 7 days for protection (1 day if you started hbc the first day of your period). Doctors sometimes recommend up to a month because they want woman to get into the habit of taking the pill every day at the exact same time but, the information from the manufactuer is what is correct otherwise we'd see law suits!

I was on the Pill for about 10 years and the Patch for about 2 years. I was always told that when starting on birth control, or switching between types (I switched pill brands a few times and then switched to the patch), that you should give it about 1 month before having unprotected sex if you don't want to get pregnant.
Of course you still need that condom to protect against HIV, and other STDs

If you are asking how long should a girl take birth control before it will work, I think that the typical time is 3 months.

One month if she begins her pills on the 1st day of her period, 2 months if she starts on the Sunday after she starts her period. It's worth the reduction in stress to wait till then. No worrying about if the condom breaks, or if you don't use one by mistake, etc. If you are committed to each other, you can actually ENJOY SEX!!!

I'm sorry, "before" what? Before sex? It depends on what type of pill she uses and when she starts it in relation to her menstrual cycle. Check out this website:

I would be cautious and go with two, the first month they always recommend to use a secondary form of protection.
