Someone told me long ago that you could only be for one or the other. They are both genius, incomparable bands, whose influences are still being heard in today's music. But out of the two, who was more overrated and who was the true gift to the world through their music? Why? If possible, name some bands you think have been the most influenced by the band of your choice.

I have to wonder what drugs nvr10pts is on. Neither the Stones or the Beatles influenced anyone? Are you kidding me?

Of the two, the Beatles had much more influence than the Stones. Only the most die-hard Stones fan would think that that group has more talent than the Beatles did, and both as lyricists and music writers the Beatles put the Stones to shame. The Stones have only carried on so long because they don't know when to quit (they have to keep supporting Keith's habits and Mick's illegitimate kids).

Honestly, I think the Beatles are overrated. I admit that they did change the way pop music was recorded, and experimented in ways that no other band was doing at the time. However, while the Beatles were an important band, the Stones recorded THE BEST rock album ever heard, Exile On Main Street. In their heyday (everything between Beggar's Banquet and E on M S), they were a blender that chewed every American musical style, from country and folk, to blues and soul, and spit out their own, raw version of British soul blues. The genius of the Stones is that they sold American music, informed by everybody from Muddy Waters to Otis Redding, back to Americans who had never heard of their influences. Even the Stones minor masterpieces like Black and Blue, and It's Only Rock and Roll, tap into a vein of raw rock and roll that the Beatles just couldn't touch. Influenced by the Stones? Just about any rock and roll band who attempts raw garage rock is measured against this band

I love both the Beatles and the Stones, there is no rule that you have to only like one, thats absurd.
The Beatles were perhaps the most influential social power of the entire past century. They are on thier own level.
Musically the Stones are also on their own level, but not nearly as socialy significant as the Beatles. The Beatles influenced the Stones more than vice versa as well.
Neither band is or was overrated. Both honestly were true gifts to the world, believe me.

Beatles, NO CONTEST!

Bands influenced: Ben Folds Five, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, and even the Rolling Stones

The Beatles were a pop band while the Stones were a rock band. Either way, they both were influenced by American rock and roll. I don't think either of them influenced anyone... inspired maybe. The Stones still rock and the Beatles can take their "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and go sit in the corner.

The Beatles, so easy! The Rolling Stones aren't that great.

Not even a contest. Beatles all day. Stones are great but they would have been nothing without the beatles paving the way.
