How do they expect people to call the toll free number for Hooked on Phonics if they can't read.

1-800-ABC-DEFG doesn't really do them a lick of good does it?

Ah, the mysteries of the English language. In college, I took linguistics and had to learn how to spell using the phonetic alphabet...it was a pain sometimes!

It would be nice to spell things the way they sound, but for the sake of consistency there has to be one agreed upon way to spell things so that English speakers all over the world can comprehend each other.

No because it refers to sounding out a word - from the Greek phōnētikós, vocal.

nope, because if i pronounce "foneticks" it would be fone-ticks like a 2 syllable word.

but for phonetics, it would be fo-ne-tiks, like a 3 syllable word.
