I'm almost 34 weeks pregnant and I'm already dialated 1 cm, well I asked my doctor is this normal, and he said its not a good thing to be dialated at 33 weeks, I was wanting to kno if anyone else has been in this situation, and I also was wanting to know when you are 8 months pregnant do u got to the doctor every 2 weeks or 1 month. I'm a little concerned about going into early labor, he told me he wants to see me back in 4 weeks, but i thought when you are that far along, u should be seen more often.

For most doctors, they ask you to come in every 2 weeks during your 8th month.

1 cm dilated is not really much to worry about. Many women don't give birth until many weeks after that. Just be alert to any of the signs of preterm labor and call your doctor if you notice any of them: http://www.marchofdimes.com/prematurity/13454_5809.asp

I don't think it's a huge issue to be dialated 1cm already. If you start dialating further, then worry. Or if your doc tells you that your cervix is thinning... can't remember the term for it... then you know that labor is coming pretty soon. Has your child dropped into position yet? (You'll feel an incredibly annoying pressure in your groin- well, I did) My daughter's almost 4 but as far as I can remember, by the time I hit 34 weeks, I was going at least every 2 weeks. I think it was every week for the last 6 though.

Good luck to you!

First of all i am 38 weeks and only at a 1. i wish i was you. but any way its not normal to be dialated at 33 weeks but then agian you could be slow for the next 7 weeks at dialating you never know.but also remember that you can have a child in your 8th month and theyll be fine. how do you know that your dialated anyway you docter shouldnt have started checking that untill the last month. For the other youll seen your doctor 1 a month untill this the last month then you see him or her 1 a week untill you pop it out.good luck

i didn't have that problem so i cant be much help. i do know that stressing about it isn't good for you or the baby. maybe you were not given an accurate due date and you are a little further than you think. maybe you are just one of those women who dilate slowly over a long period of time. if so you are lucky because you have less labor that way. anyway im sure you will be fine. if your doctor was too concerned he would have recommended bed rest or sent you to the hospital. by now the baby is pretty well developed. even if you gave birth early, the baby should be fine with a little help from the doctors. try not to do anything strenuous. and congrats. life is about to get a whole lot more complicated, but your heart will get a whole lot fuller. my son is 7 months and he has made my life beautiful.

I would say that you should go more often being that you are having a slight complication. I didn't start going to the doctor every couple of weeks until i was closer to nine months. I would be concerned also not just because you're a first time mom but because this is your child and you love him/her. Don't be ashamed because if you don't look out for your baby who will. Get a second opinion it never hurts. I dilated a cm sort of early (not as early as you maybe about 36wks) and had to have my labor induced so you may be O.K. But always go with your instinct when it comes to your baby.

Hi i am also a first time mom. I have an incompetent cervix and have been dilated since the middle of july to 1 cent. I am 34 weeks today and because i have gestional diabetes the baby has to heart has to be mointered to make sure that it is not going thru any stress. To answer your question, u will most likely go every 2 weeks until u turn 36 weeks. After that u will go every week until the baby is born. Good luck, don't worry and congratulations

Hi ! I would really get a second opinion and fast! Don't mean to scare you I do know of cases where women have been dilated 1 cm for a couple of weeks before pregnancy & everything was alright but... I also heard in some cases you need to help.Your doctor sounds like he/she is not concerned enough to get you back in sooner than 4 weeks! By now you should be seen at least every 2 weeks & if having problems sooner! I have had a bad experience with my doctor after I gave birth she didn't seem to care about my health, I went to her twice with the same symptoms and nothing was done. After I was fevered & nearly fainting from exhaustion & loss of blood I finally smartened up enough to go to the hospital. Found out that I retained some of my placenta, was severly infected & if left long enough I could have lost my womb or worse. So please if your gut instinct tells you to be overly cautios than for your own & your babys sake do it! I really hope everything turns out alright. Have a HAPPY BABY!

when I was 26 weeks pregnant, I was dialated to a one. I never dialated any further until the night he was born. However, my doctor told me I had to take it easy and stay off my feet. My cousin was just put on bed rest for the same thing. Keep in mind that full term is at 36 weeks, so you do not have much longer. Good luck and congrats!

Its probably normal for you to start dilating, i was too. At 36 weeks i went every week. You should talk to your doctor and tell him your concerns, its your right to know what is going on especially if your concerned about it. By the way Congrats and i hope it all goes well. ( I have a 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 year old.)
