usualy a gas fire place burns sort of like a gas grill but with ''ceramic logs'' over the jets to give a life like apperance. you do not want to burn real wood in a gas fire place. replacement log can be bought thru lows, home depot or sometimes your local heat and air shop. check to see wheather you have natural gas or propane. only thing that will matter for is if you get new set up installed, the jets are different between the two. also the fake logs come in varied legths and prices.

I have a gas stove... not a fireplace... but I imagine that it's similar. Our stove has the fake log thing in it already, all we have to do is set the thermostat and it comes on automatically. With a fireplace, it's the same idea... I think. I guess it depends on what it was installed for. I've seen some that are purely ornamental and don't put off much heat... so you might want to look into it if you're going to be depending on it as a heat source.

It depends on the type of fireplace. Some have a gas starter so that you can just put real logs in and light the gas to start the fire. You can also add gas logs to this type. Some, however, are only designed to burn gas and you cannot burn wood in them. Your seller should be able to tell you which type you have.

I have a gas fireplace and it looks real but i think it sucks. if you have littl echildren then its ok. Basically it should already contain fake logs in it. the whole thing is seald off behind a plastic or glass cover and a little heat comes from it. thats what i make of it.
sorry if it doesn't help

I have a woodburning fireplace with a gas starter. If yours is gas, you have logs in it already. If it's old, you may want to replace them. Chances are, your fireplace will not burn as hot and you will not have the charm - the crackling and the smell.

i LOVE my gas fireplace!....there is nothing to it and the ones they make today look great!.....it produces heat like a real one...no crackling noises though : o ( ......but there is NO maintenance.....they have their own ceramic logs (very real like)....and they are wired so flames come up through them....all you do is flip a switch on/off...easy!...look real, feel real, don't sound TOTALLY real...but still whistles a bit.....i like it a lot!

You don't have to do anything except turn it on. We now have one in our new home that we just bought 6 months ago. However, I do miss my old wood burning fire place, but this one is much easier, neater, etc.
