this will sound a tiny bit cruel but if you really need him on the bottle don't give him the breast if he refuses to take a bottle. eventually he will realize that the bottle has food but it may also be the nipple. try a playtex nurser with the drop in liners. the nipples on them move like a real nipple. also check and make sure the flow from the nipple is slow. i think the bottle nipple should only have one hole in it since he is still tiny.

Is it that he doesn't understand the different type of nipple, or doesn't get enough? Maybe you need to experiment with different types, different babies like different things. Check to make sure the right amount will come out of the nipple. It may be blocked, or have too small of a hole. Are you the mother? If so, if you can have someone else try to bottle feed him, then he might take it better. Are you stopping breastfeeding altogether? If you do not have to go "cold turkey", just try one or two feedings with a bottle, don't give in and offer him breast, keep offering him the bottle only until it's time for his next feeding. Sometimes the things you have to do may seem hard, but if it only lasts a little while, (a couple of days or a week) it will be better in the end to go ahead and do it now. If he is just being stubborn, he will learn quickly that if the bottle is the only thing there, he has no other choice if he wants to eat.

If he has been breastfed then he is used to YOUR nipples. Switching back and forth between types of nipples can cause nipple confusion. you may want to try nipples and bottles that simulate the breast, such as the old fashion Platex. There are a wide variety of nipples and bottle systems now designed to help decrease nipple confusion by simulating the breast. I liked Platex or some of the wider nipples because they touch the newborns nose in chin much like your breast does. Do some further research before investing in any particular system to decide which is best for you and your baby. This will decrease the financial burden. It is also important to find a bottle system that works and stick to it to decrease nipple confusion.

May I know why are u introducing bottle to your boy?? Going back to work??

It is a very important and rewarding experience to direct feed our babies when they are very young. The bonding is great!

However if bottle feed needed to be introduced at this point of time, baby will be confused hence making it slightly more difficult. Try not to be around when bottle feeding, let someone take over the job.

another way to help is to use a teat that resembles the nipple...I think Nuk has such teats.

Try giving him breast milk in a bottle. It may be he doesn't like the formula. If that doesn't work, try different style nipples.

Before starting your child on baby food, introduce him to juices via a bottle. The first time you do this you can see his eyes pop as he goes "Wow! This is not milk. This is good!"

Once he gets accustomed to the fact that there are different flavors out there, you can introduce him to baby food.

There's no magic formula to fix this, some babies just have a strong preference for nipple or teat. My first baby would dehydrate herself rather than take a bottle (she was breastfed). There are ways around it, you just need to figure out what works for you and your son (trial and error, thats the only way you'll work it out).

For us, the only thing that worked was feeding her expressed milk in a tiny cup. There is a special technique for this, a lactation consultant should be able to teach you. Ask your maternal child health nurse for advice too, they can help alot.

Have you tried different nipples? Some are more like breast nipples. Just a suggestion (that probabally won't work) I guess you just have to keep trying or if you don't need to bottle feed just wait and see if he gets better.

Same with my baby boy. Now I have to try mother milk tea to keep my milk producing.
It's OK, because your nipple is more comfortable and soft to your baby mouth.
If possible try to give him him your expressed milk with spoon.
