when their foot is halfway out the door

and they have a nice salary and the potential to make loads of money every month all they need to do is apply themselves but i think their happy with the salary and thats it so what do i do and no stupid anwsers please!

What do you do? What do they do?

Money is nice, but an employee needs to feel that what they do makes a difference to the company, and that their efforts are appreciated by the boss. We do not need a daily pat on the back, but we need to know the boss notices.

We also hope to have a sense of security. I realize that issue is not as available as it was for our parents (like in the 60's - 80's) but we don't want to have to constantly fear for our future.

Why is their foot out the door? Since you notice it, you should know why. If not, ask them. Draw them in to where your head is, because if they are going, it might be too late, and for some of them, YOU might be better off. But if you are losing good performers, ask them. Who better to tell you what is up in your particular environment.

What do you have to lose? Them? You said they are going anyhow.

Try an incentive programme, where they can win a vacation or a larger bonus at the end of the year. Or organise a competitive atmosphere by posting individual performance stats with some kind of recognition for the high performers.
Share your company's long term goals with the employees at regular monthly meetings & make suggestions to them as to how they can take an active role in meeting these goals & projections as well as how they will benefit directly.

Have monthly birthday celebrations ; the boss buys a cake (big enough to feed the employees) on a day during the first week of the month, send out a flyer that says "come for b-day celebration on Wed. @3:00pm in the breakroom". Have a "wear your jeans" day, like on fridays : everyone that wants to wear jeans on Friday pays $1.00 to a fund for "employee emergency". If one of your employees has a tragedy or hardship, the money raised from "jeans day" would go to them. You can have pizza parties for employees meeting "quota" and stuff like that. I've found that if you involve and recognize employees for just showing up everyday and creating a "work family", they tend to want to participate.

People are inherently lazy, and they get even more so when they get comfortable in a repetitive job.

Take them aside and talk to them. Explain that you expect more out of your employee(s). Give them a chance to shape up. Sometimes people need a fire lit under their @$$. If they don't apply themselves by a certain date, tell them you will not only bypass them for a raise, you will lower their salary.

You are paying for some level of work I presume. If they are not providing it, then you should not provide the pay. If they show no desire to change, fire them.

Do they have room to advance? They need the opportunity to be promoted if you really want them to try.

However, the underlying issue is hiring people who aren't motivated and who don't truly love what they do. Fire the lazy ones and hire people who would take advantage of the opportunity.

Don't add games or prizes or contests. That's stupid and treats the employees like children. And later they won't want to work for "nothing" when the prizes are gone.

Praise them such a little thing .Like Wow you did an awesome job. Or thanks for doing that it looks so good when you do it.

If this is telemarketing job have the person who says there spiel the best gets a day off with pay. Go and watch Walmart in the early morning Clap and cheer have employee meeting.
at our home health we feed them to get them to come to meetings We actually give them awards for best work and send them complements from the families.

its amazing how so many ppl become they become content to stay in one place rather than take a chance to better themselves...how do you motivate them...who knows motivational speakers get paid loads of money to tell you how but actually applying it and having your employees apply it is a whole other animal....i did see these t-shirts one time that might at least give you an idea....'the beatings will continue until morale improves' maybe you need to try a little 'physical motivation'. ; )

First clearly state the rights and duties at the start. Explain their role in the organization.

Then delegate with full faith in their abilities.

When the employees work to fullfill the set targets etc, reward them / appreciate their work.

This should motivate people.

People are only motivated if they feel like they are moving forward in their lives towards a better life.

People are motivated by fairness.

People are motivated by big ideas.

People are motivated by teamwork.

People want to be appreciated, and people hate bosses who pretend or put on fake personas.

People are motivated by friendship.

If you are working someplace where these things are impossible to provide, find a different job and suggest your employees do the same.

The best motivation for employees is just let them feel that they are important to the company. Give them some assistance not just monetary but also emotional support.
