I have a shingel missing on the ridge and I could see some wood exposed. The wood does not look damage. How should I go about replacing it?

Get a flat pry bar or something like that, then loosen the shingle above it by pulling the nails up. Do this from the under side of the shingle, and be careful not damage it. you may need to patch the felt or "tar paper" also. Then slide the new shingle into place and re-nail.
