Does an upper back ache have anything to do with labor? Im 39 weeks pregnant and for the past 2 hours i think i may have been having contractions...my stomach just tightens a couple times an hour but there is no pain, so can these even be contractions...i also been haveing alot of back pain and chest pain, can this relate in anyway. I dont want to jump to conclusions but what are contractions even suppose to feel like..sometimes i have a crampy feeling but ill also have a sharp stomach pain a couple times a day, this is my first kid and i really dont know what to expect...i would like an opinion from anyone on if this could be labor....or just more false labor..

Well the only way to tell for sure if these are truly contractions is to drink lots of water, lay down & time them.If you have them in a pattern, for example theyre coming every 5 mins for an hour or two, that is defiantely a very good sign you are in labor. If it is true labor.. contractions will not go away,it doesn't matter if you change position, take a shower, all they do is get stronger & closer together. As for the upper back pain your feeling just might be pressure from uterus,if the pain you were getting was a lower dull back pain, then I would consider that a sign of labor too,and for your chest pain it can also be due to cause of the baby's weight & it causing chest pains. Here is a site that can help you time your contractions for you, very easy to follow & do.Good Luck to you & Congratulations on your upcoming arrival!

You are probably having contractions, when I was pregnant I was having the same thing and didn't know because I didn't know what the were supposed to feel like, but they feel like your stomach tightens up just like you said. It doesn't mean you are going into labor but if they start becoming regular and more painful you should call your doctor.

You sound just like me!!! You are probably in pre labour, which means your body is slowly going into labour. It is a good thing, although frustrating, because it means your body will be better prepared for when you go into full on labour. It dragged on for 2-3 weks in both my second and third pregnancies. When you start to lose some mucus it is a good sign that you are only a few days off, for me the mucus loss increased as it got closer to the regular contractions that started my labour. Good luck try to get some rest.

A horrible back ache was how I knew labor started every time. So you're likely close. Once your deep abdominal contractions kick in and they are a regular distance apart, it's time to head to the hospital.

The tightening of your stomach is probably the beginning of your contractions. They will get more intense and more frequent.
Much luck to you!

OK if you think you are in labor then why in hell would you be on here asking and not calling your doctor and going to the hospital.
