That value and power are given to symbols and money by faith. If you believe it has value or power it does, at least to you alone.

I do agree, with this added thought.

"Money" truly is only a symbol. Power is as fleeting as those who hold it. Faith is a "truth",,,not strictly a fact. Perception,,,at least in an immediate sense, is reality, to us alone, and/or to those we may influence.

I see this theory as incorrect. Generally speaking, symbols and money are given value and power by societal agreement, not an individual's faith.

For example, the letters of the Western alphabet are symbols whose meanings have been assigned to them because western societies have agreed upon those meanings. If you, as an individual, no longer believe that the combination of symbols "apple" means a particular kind of fleshy, edible fruit, it does not change society's view/definition of the symbols and what they represent.

The same can be said for money. You can pick up a penny and believe with all your heart that it is valuable enough to buy you a BMW. That belief, however, isn't going to cause the salesman to hand you the car keys.

we don't know for sure, do we? you can't prove that it was or wasn't chance that ones god answered their prayer to an object they have.

so, i picked a symbol of sorts (the God of Christianity), and i choose to believe my symbol has power and a special value to me. this is all faith because there isn't enough evidence to prove any of this, or else the entire world would be made of Christians. then, this defeats the purpose of Christianity, which is faith because, like i said before, we don't know if it was chance or prayer, etc.

faith doesn't give money power or value, but choice does. we choose our currency, work for it, and then use it to buy items.

Each of us has many of the same symbols in our lives. And to each of us, they mean different things. It is all about values. Some people value power and material things. Others value deep meaning, thoughts and spirituality (which is also different to each person). Others only value themselves (very sad). Yet others value something that is "higher" than themselves.

And yet, if you proposed to take monetary things away from someone who values them, they would protest. Another person who values spirituality/nature wouldn't care if you took away something monetary.

It's all a matter of perspective and life experiences.

Absolutely. If the cashier at Safeway didn't believe that the piece of paper I offered was worth $20, she wouldn't let me walk out of the store with my groceries. And if I didn't believe that the numbers on a bank statement reflected actual dollars (whose value I also have to take on faith) deposited to my account then I wouldn't be able to conduct my affairs by offering other pieces of paper in the form of cheques, or little bits of plastic in the form of credit cards, and have anyone take either one seriously.
So yes, it is faith in those symbols that gives them value --but the faith must be somehow backed up by productive output.
