I design cars and wanted to know what your opinion of "timeless" design is. A response relating to cars would be helpful but if you want to broaden it to design in general, that's ok too. THANKS!

take a look at porsche and how long they have been deemed the most beautiful cars in the world. Their style is simple, rounded, elegant. They don't have to change it, ever. Every year when people come out with fancy new models, they change the look. Porsche can always keep the same look, cuz it's timeless, and so they have the freedome to keep focusing on upgrading the interior mechanics.

Timeless design refers to at any point in time, 1950's,1930's, 1980's, the design fits the time period and is popular. A car that they do not change the design for several years, like 10+, I believe would be a timeless design. Something that is functional, but yet beautiful. Look at the Corvette from 1963 (the golden age of corvette) to 1980. Those cars, IMHO are timeless.
Rolls Royce is another fine example. Mustang before the awful 80's and 90's, is another timeless classic.

Timeless design is not trendy design. It does not call on any particular time period or style. It should still look current 100 years from now.

That isn't to say that you can't learn from the past or be inspired by other designs. It has to be beautiful without being voguish.

To me a timeless design car is sheek and the color should be black so that at night in the city lights it looks gorgeous and people will turn their heads

If you design cars, see to it that it is entirely original to qualify for timeless design.
And see to it that it can achieve longevity.

nothing is truly timeless. if you say that a car from the 1930's is timeless... then why did they stop making it?
