I recently went to the dr and she did all the blood work to see if everything is normal, and she told me to do ovulation tests. When I did the tests the first one would always have a light pink line, but then the rest of them would be negative. Does anyone know if one brand is better than the other for ovulation tests?

Getting Pregnant

Did you know that a woman's chance of getting pregnant at any particular time is only about 20%? Most gynecologists say that women can still get pregnant within one year, but there are a few "tricks of the trade" that may help speed conception:

1. Track the monthly cycle. According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a woman is most likely to conceive on the day of actual ovulation and the five days that precede ovulation. A woman usually ovulates on the fourteenth day of her cycle, so conception attempts are best tried between the 9th and 14th day. Her temperature will rise slightly during ovulation, so this is another point to check. Remember that the first day of the cycle is the first day of actual bleeding.

2. Don't douche. Douching, or internally cleansing the vagina with liquid (usually in a vinegar-based solution), even occasionally, can cut a woman's chance for conception by up to 50%, according to doctors at the University of Washington in Seattle. Good bacteria naturally cleanse the woman's vaginal area, as does her monthly cycle.

3. Drink caffeinated tea. A study published in the American Journal of Public Health reported that women who drank 4 ounces or more of caffeinated tea each day increased their chances of conception by up to 200%!

4. Elevate your hips. After ejaculation, placing a fluffy pillow under the woman's hips and having her hold this position for 30-40 minutes give the sperm a better chance of reaching the ovum (egg) with the help of gravity.

Though these methods do not guarantee conception, they have been known to help significantly increase your chances.

Your basel temp will only tell you after you ovulate. These ovulation test will work on the day of. Take them in the morning. Sounds like you had an expired kit. My dr told me to get the clear blue easy ones. They are the cheapest at walmart. The line second line will be light when you are not ovulating. It will be dark and match the other line when you are ovulating. good luck!

The only way for you to know if you are ovulating is to take your basal body temp each morn, same time and before you get up. You should see a pattern in temps that leads up to and after ovulation. You can get the basal thermometer at Wal-Mart for about 8 dollars. I use a wonderful FREE website called Fertilityfriend.com...it graphs your temps for you, keeps track of your fertility signs, tells you when you ovulate and also tells you if there is an implantation dip in your temps. You can also use Ovulation prediction kits, but they only measure your LH surge and give you a ball park time for ovulation...they do not pin point it. Oh, and it is possible to be ovulating while you do not have your period, just like it is possible to have a period and not ovulate.

I don't know if one brand is better than the other in regards to ovulation tests. I knew a lady in your position-she & her husband had tried for 7 years to have a baby. She weighed 117 lbs which apparently was underweight for her, although she didn't know it at the time. She gained 7 lbs and then became pregnant. She put 2+2 together and made sure not to go below 120 lbs. She became the mother of 4 in 5 years. I'm guessing her body was in "survival" mode at 117 lbs and not allowing her to become pregnant. I wish you all the best in conceiving a little one.

The only difference in the tests (brand or generic) is just the price.

I suggest getting a bbt thermometer. That way you can track your temps and no for sure when/if you ovulate.

Be sure the kit hasn't expired. I'm assuming you are trying to get pregnant. my experience is that when you feel like you can't get pregnant, don't worry, when you relax and the stress is gone; that is when it will occur. Good luck.
