How do you get a hard football hit/tackle that just sends the ball carrier to hell, are there any gym exercises for this??

Heavy complex free weight exercises like squats, cleans, deadlifts, and bench presses. The best thing to do is to develop your upper leg muscles for the explosiveness of the ground. Build your upper body so that whe you send your body off the ground you have the muscle mass to deliver it big and not hurt yourself.

It's usually an explosiveness thing, so you'll want to focus on exercises that emphasize blowing out of a stance, especially with your legs.

I recommend the hip/leg sled, especially if you can face it with your shoulders in the carriage. This is a little easier on your back than "exploding" doing squats; that will essentially push the weights off your shoulders and then they have to land right back on them.

I'd also recommend close-grip bench, as it will help your upper body "explode" into the guy too.

Just remember to keep your head up so you don't break your neck.
Also, remember it's more important to wrap a guy up and stop him than to risk him bouncing off you and running 75 yards.

That is what is wrong when the NFL today, lack of fundamentals. How many times have you seen players hit a runner hard and bounce off. Wrap up the players ankles, calves, knees or thighs and make the tackle.

well tackling is not hitting... even the pros forget that ... if you want to tackle someone you do it right ... keep your head up body low and tackle the hips and wrap the legs...
You wanna put the hurt on some foo??? you lead with your shoulders right on where their chin would be... start out low and you explode up with your legs. best way to train for that is all about legs... do the squat sled and incline squat sled.

Develop explosive power. Things like cleans help, plyometrics can help, running hills can help.
