When I compare my answer to the solution manual, I got wrong.
I couldn't get the answer.

The answer is...

F x d = -100 x 9.8j x (-5√3i-5j) = 4900 N.m.

Do you get the answer of 4900?
I used the calculator and I got 13387.04 or just 13387.
Please help me to find the correct answer.

I dont think the question is right, atleast the way u printed it.
Can u be more specific as
what f stand for and what d stands for? I take it that its Force and displacememt right. Also is it cross product between f and d? and what does N.m stand for? newton metre? or nano metre?
please send there specifics to yonderyellow2@yahoo.com and i will help u.

I think that i and j represent unit vectors that are perpendicular to each other. In effect, the force moves a distance of -5 sqrt 3 in the i direction, and a distance of -5 in the j direction, so you have to determine the total distance traveled. Using the Pythagorean theorem, this comes out to 10 (meters, apparently).

Unfortunately, using 10 produces an answer of 9800 Nm, which is twice the answer given. I'm not sure why it's off by a factor of 2.

Your answer is correct. The solution might have just been printed wrong.

u cannot have "i" and "j" in an equation as such..

in electrical engineering its considered "j"

and in mechanical and others its considered "i"

so which is it?
