These members of the house voted against affirming the inherent authority of State and local law enforcement to assist in the enforcement of immigration laws. WHY?

Do they want illegals in our country? Are they just looking for hispanic voter support, or are they just looking to obstruct the will of the people of this country?

exnavytec - If you would read you would already know that the "polls" show Americans overwhelmingly want illegal immigration STOPPED. Pick one, they all say the same, Americans want immigration laws enforced.

(a) We've encouraged illegals to live here long enough and let them provide a source of cheap labor, so why not?
(b) Probably, so?
(c) If it were the will of the Country it would pass the Congress.

Most importantly, it makes everybody subject to being questioned by the police with regard to their legal status. If I were a Hispanic Citizen or Legal Immigrant, I'd worry about the potential for harrassment based on the color of my skin.

Lastly, it's a federal intrusion into the ability of States and Cities to determine how they want their police to operate.

Its provisions are reflective of a police state I wouldn't want to live in.

They probably reckon they would lose some voters who are like you said "people of this country" too.
In addition, extending the immigration law enforcement responsability to local agencies would create new problems for the law enforcement system and ultimately us, the people.

Democrats think they will draw these people into social programs thus securing their votes.

Republicans want free labor.

The only losers in this equation is the American people who overwhelming support immigration control and enforcement.
