I have a "VORAD" attached to the front of my frieghtliner. Here's an example of safety and technology. This device has two key parts. One) It's an alert system on the 'blind side' (passenger's side) of the truck and Trailer when combined. So, as I move from the right lane to my left, I could miss a car in my mirrors..there's a signal light inside my cab that tells me if I am going to 'hit a car' as I move from right to left. Additionally, The same set of lights will tell me if I am too close to cars DIRECTLY in front of my truck. Many times little cars see the space in front of my truck and assume it's an open space for them, actually it decreases my stopping distance. It's a buffer for stopping 80,000pds of weight. The VORAD is also a "Black Box" recording every 10 minutes new data. Much like an airplane, the last ten minutes before an accident can be recorded and used in court. Braking Pwr, speed, etc are looked at. All in all it's a great safety device.

I don't really understand what you want to know, but the impact of technology is just as profound in the transportation industry as it is in any other dimension of daily life.
