Every once in a while my car will start doing this thing where it will not shift into a higher gear so the car only goes about 35mph and the engine sounds like it just needs to shift. When it starts to do it i can pull over and put the car in reverse and it will kinda jump back and then i can put it back into drive and it will work fine. Does anybody know what could be causing this and what needs to be fixed? Thanks.

There is a few things that can cause this.
First is the trans fluid full?
Have you ever changes the trans filter?
It can also be the tranmission govonor. It is inside and helps the trans shift.
It can also be the frount pump inside the tork converter is not pumping the fluid

Hope this helps and thanks for your question

Sounds like an automatic transmission issue - check the transmission fluid. This is normally done while the engine is warm and running.

You may have to get your transmission oil and filter changed if the oil is old and getting thin.

You may also have a vacuum leak but, due to the sporadic nature of the problem, I think that is less likely.

i own a repair shop,,and it sounds like the shift control cable needs to be adjusted on it,,this cable allows a certain amount of pressure to be reached to allow it to shift gears ,and if its out,,it wont shift right,,one other thing that will do it also is a the filter being dirty in the transmission on it this don't allow a good flow of fluid inside the transmission and robs it of power needed to make it shift properly,,it can be be either one of these things or both causing it to do that,it may need to go in for repair good luck i hope this help,s.
