* Low wages.
* Little/no employee benefits.
* Outsourcing labor, in some cases overseas.
* Forcing mom & pop stores out of business.
* Ecologically insenstive (a matter of opinion).

Most of these critiques apply to many (most) large multi-national corporations. Wal*Mart is a favorite target because it has gained the ire of the vocal political left by supporting Republican causes, and because it is a very profitable retailer that is firmly embedded in most American's consciousnesses.

This may not be the quickest answer, but a really excellent source of in-depth information can be found here:

PBS aired this Frontline special - it's fantastic. You can watch it online for free. It goes into the details of the situation and provides excellent background.

If you don't want to watch the special you can read the transcript or browse the website for this episode. Quick good. Another wonderful contribution from PBS.

Another good source of information, as always, is wikipedia - which has a summary of criticisms here:

Basically every major company does things that are morally wrong, like Target not allowing the Salvation Army people to collect donations anymore. There are several things to hate about Wal*Mart. My sis-in-law recently stopped shopping there because they support the gay and lesbian olympics. They also pay workers outside of the country about 20 cents an hour to manufacture their inventory. That's why they're so inexpensive. Like I said before, there's no real major store that is all-good. Which one is worse, I don't know, but they all have their faults.

The objections to Walmart center on their low pay (often below federal poverty levels) and their lack of health insurance for their employees.

considering that Wal Mart's get right of entry to into the yankee "life type", the single-quit procuring concept has hit pay dirt! This, in and of itself instruments many of the "smaller" (mom&Pop shops) out on thier very own, which instruments them at a longtime downside. Many municipalities set up NO WAL MART ZONES with the intention to maintain thier residing house-city "experience" and (to a element) an benefit. - Many communities desire coping with smaller agencies so they be attentive to who they are coping with. - A MAYBERRY-consequence. those smaller communities are THRIVING in easy terms to a scope. all of it pertains to the type you want to save; do you want IT NOW, reguardless of who gets credit or are you able to attend and get a extra precise unit and have faith that it will paintings, and if it does not, who can fix it so it could?
