Don't think about the whole room or it will continue to be overwhelming... Just pick one spot - like the side of your bed -
and sort through the pile or whatever - make 3 piles without moving from that spot. 1 pile = garbage, 2nd pile = things that go in your dresser/closet, 3rd pile = everything else to be sorted after you sort through the first 2 piles. This might take an hour - but do a little spot each day or every other day - and promis yourself to keep that spot clean. You will feel like you have accomplished something after 2x of doing this. Just make sure once you clean a spot to keep it that way.

think about this... if you leave it too long, you will get bugs. Whether it is clean clothes, or garbage, they seem to find piles of stuff and live there. Even just moths. Wouldn't you hate to find something crawling around in there one day? (been there, done that, pretty gross) take action before it gets to that point. On a day where you have the whole day, get some boxes and some garbage bags(and a friend if available, and not too embarassed) put the garbage in the garbage bags, and assign the boxes to different areas in your room and even one for things that belong elsewhere in your house(laundry room, etc). Once you've sorted the stuff on the floor and thrown the garbage out, it might seem like an easier task to go through the boxes, just do one, or half of one every day. Promise yourself that you will not throw stuff on the floor any more, and keep a tote-type box in the closet or a corner for all the stuff you don't want to put away, and sort through the box once a week(pick a special day) Just make sure you don't use it for things that can go bad, or are dirty, like garbage, dirty dishes, food, and dirty laundry These things should go in their place right away, or at least once a day.

The first thing you can do is start throwing away the things you don't need or use any longer, such as clothes , books, magazines, etc. After you do that, get all the clothes that have to get clean and put them in a bag to get clean. Then go through your drawers and take everything out you do not need, put that in the pile that you are going to throw away. The clean clothes, either hang them or put neatly in the drawers. By now you should be seeing a little more space available to you. Take the cages of the animals and put them in the hallway, take your bed clothes and put in the pile to be clean.
Then sweep and mope floor or vacuum. make the bed, bring the cages back in. Go throw things out , do, laundry and put away as soon as it is done. You see follow what I say and your room will be clean in about 4 hours. Not bad for a days work. Oh, don't forget clean the the top of the dressers. Good luck, send me a picture of your room when you finished. My sweetie you can do it.

Well, if your pet cages have to stay in your room, can you remove other things? Maybe there are things you want to keep, but really just need to store away. Maybe you could pack some stuff into some boxes and store them in the attic, garage, basement, etc. Or maybe you need to make decisions on what to get rid of. You could have a rumage sale, or take some stuff to a thrift shop. Maybe you could shop around for some organizers, like the kind of storage boxes that are made to slide under the bed. Or maybe shelving units would help. Where there's a will, there's a way!
Good luck!

It would help if you could get a friend to help you and then get some boxes or bags and have one (or more) be to get rid of and the rest to put stuff in to get your room emptied out. After it is emptied out give it a good cleaning - then go through the stuff one box or bag at a time and start putting it in your room in an organized fashion. If you don't know where to put something put it back outside your room till you can decide whether to get rid of it or where you want to put it. You may find that you need to put up shelves or get more dressers if you have room. Good luck.

If you don't have any more room than that then you need to get rid of the pet cages! They shouldn't be crammed in your room! It isn't healthy to have all the animals in a small place that you have to sleep in.My suggestion is to take a whole sat. and empty the room completely!Closet also. Then tell your parents that the animals are making you and your clothes smell bad! I guarantee that they are. Your family has grown accustomed to the smell but it can be smelled by others. I taught school and I could smell cigarettes and animals and one girl that had a super filthy home that I visited. Their homework papers smelled like those things and when I graded them at home I could really smell them. You will need to shampoo your carpet twice each direction to get the animal smell out well or scrub your floor with an antiseptic cleaner.Clean the windows and woodwork and around the doors too. Do the baseboards also. Wipe down the walls because pet hair goes everywhere. I know because I have a cat! Clean the ceiling light. Now take all your clothes and wash them and hang them up after you have cleaned the closet like above. The clothes that are folded need to wait until you clean inside and out of the dresser and then put them in it.Clean all your furniture top to bottom and underneath with a good cleaner and then go over it all again with a good wood cleaner or pledge before moving it back in.Clean all of the lamps, pictures, what-nots,stuffed animals can be washed, and everything else that comes back in must be cleaned well! You will be surprised how much pet hair and dust will have accumulated! I know this because I have a friend with an ADHD daughter who also had pet cages, birds, and dogs that ran lose in her room. The girl could not just be told to clean her room. ADHD ppl have to be told each step to take before it can be done correctly. Her mom(bi-polar and her whole house had got into the same shape. I wondered why she didn't ever want me to come in anymore. Her bi-polar was at it's worst then!) couldn't get the girl to clean it and called me to get her to do it. I went over and was shocked! I told her that an 11 yr old girl could not clean it alone if she didn't have ADHD! The girl had been binging on food and throwing up in the room from having too much in her! Plates, cups, glasses, dog poop, feathers and bird poop, and everthing you can imagine was in there besides clothes, toys, dolls, everything. I emptied her room and the girl helped me. It took us 8 hrs to clean the room working hard and steady! We didn't get to the closet that day! It was horrible. Animals do not need to be housed in a bedroom with children! It is nasty. You do not need to breath in all of the poop and other stuff while you are sleeping 8 or so hrs.I wouldn't keep my cat
's stuff in my room and I love her dearly and she is my companion since I have been disabled. You can get sick. This girl was sick all of the time. As I left that day tired and exhausted, I told the mom to never let her child's room get like that again or I would report her to CPS! She knew I meant it also. When I read your question that came to mind. I feel for kids who have parents who want animals so much but then cram too many of them into a small space. You should only have animals if you have room to house them correctly, not in ppls bedrooms! sorry! Your room is probably not that bad but I know it is worse than you think. I have been going through mine and moving things. Pictures even have cat hair behind them! I have a housekeeper who sweeps and mops 3 times a week and mine still has my cat hair everywhere! I am only telling you this because if you still live at home you are probably young and the kids at school can be mean to kids. I know that this girl and the one I taught were teased and never had friends because of the smell on them. I only want to help you feel better and have a better life.So please do yourself a favor and get the animals out. Put them in your parent's room or on the back porch or get rid of them. Take care of yourself and celebrate your new clean room with a new bedspread and curtains and pretty new accessories!!If you were close I would help you! Best wishes!

Have you considered going to loft style bed? you would be able to put small dressers, book shelves, dog cages under a loft style bed. It would give you so much more space.
