i am assuming you mean a Geo motor so:

1 test compression and make sure it is in great shape
2 use higher octane gasoline
3 possibly add z-max engine treatment (about $100.00/kit) use all the gas oil and trans additives this may help

you can add more horsepower by adding another horse or buying a bigger car. Geo 3 cyl motors weren't made for power, only efficiency. you add horses you decrease fuel efficiency.
