Over the last 10 years, anonymous chat has allowed people to treat other human beings in a horrible manner without repurcussions. People have often said that nobody would ever say such things to someone's face that they would say online. I am wondeing if this is still true, though.

The internet has allowed for so much anonymity, and perhaps taught people to treat others in person less humanely.

The internet has brought a demand for instant answers, adding to people's impatience and stress.

Last, people who are subjected to abuse on the internet can feel just as badly as those abused in reality. So, now they are just being subjected to abuse they would otherwise not receive.

What are your thoughts?

I don't know. Sometimes, I think the inner life is more apparent on the internet. That is to say, our inner selves, or even inner demons are let loose in a way we would never consider in RL. So in that way, it is interesting. Another thing that occurs is that very often, the Tone of what we say can be easily mistaken. For instance, if a sarcastic person comes on line and types something that when they SAY it sounds funny, but when they TYPE it, it is offensive, then yeah, there can be WAY more misunderstandings. A great deal of our communication is by looking at the expression on people's faces, and/or listening to their tone of voice.

they are mean because their mum shoved a stick up their **** and couldn't ever come out. lol j/ok i comprehend what you mean. Who knows precisely why they are rude, mean, although. some do it for relaxing, some are merely obnoxious and rude and moronic contained in the experience that they are looking for a wrestle, some are below the effect of alcohol/drugged and in no way wondering authentic, some have psychotic episodes and say random mean stuff, the list is going on. those who're mean on the internet couldn't likely teach no signs and indications of this in genuine existence till they are schizos. stay away from those sorts, they could get risky.

I guess that's true to some extent.
But there's a minority that're actually nice people in life albeit mean online & those that're mean in life but not so online; vice versa.
For me, sometimes a long day gets to you which turns ugly & due to stress you vent online because as you said there's anonymity online anyway so what's the harm in that?
I think in everything else regardless if it's in a chat room or in life, important to keep a cool head and emotions in check *if possible* ^_^

I think everything in the world has the potential for good and bad use. The internet is exactly what people make it be. If the majority want it to be a good place, then it will be.

Yes- because if people met each other face to face they would have more social graces. The internet allows you to say and do whatever you want because you know you will never see that person face to face.

well i do agree. it's called cyber bullying or something like that. people feels safe to express their fustration on the 'net than in reality. so that is why bad things are happening to everyone who experience this abuse.

Not in real life, no.. they are usually just social rejects who would get their *** kicked in real life if they disrespect people. Normally, I would write them off as an insecure teen, but I know that's not true.. as many of them are in their 30s and 40s and WOMEN too.

Now, that's just appalling.

It might be. It let's them bring out their REAL person, so my guess is that they are just more comfortable showing it.
Me, it has given me better speach skills being naturally shy. I don't seem to be mean to people yet.
=)
