I feel the need to clarify a few things in response to some of the answers I have received to my question about my ancestry. First of all "First Nations " is a term for Indian like in Native American Indian the only difference is I am Canadian. As for being grateful, I was always told as a child I should be grateful that someone wanted me. I was abused physicaly, emotionaly, mentaly, and sexualy all of my childhood years. I had a baby between grade 6 and 7,I was 12 years old and the father was my adopted parents son. I was told to forget about it and never talk about it. I ended up drinking and using drugs at age 13 for 35 years.I am now clean and sober for 8 years now I felt the need to write this because there is so much more to ones life then meets the eye. So as for being grateful that these people adopted me it is hard to be grateful for being abused although I have to say I did make peace with them.

I am glad to see that you are a survivor sister! I have been through horrible circumstances myself in my childhood and teen years. But when I hit 16 I decided to get my GED and move away from it all by getting emancipated and moving 6 hours away.
It was the best thing I ever did back then.
I have survived and am totally happy now.
It is good to survive and I thank GOD everyday for it.
So, be thankful to god for still being here and be at peace with the rest. It is over.
God Bless!

You should do a blog and write a book. A lot of people have had tough childhoods and it's hard when you're adult you don't have very good memories of those times. You have to keep doing as you're doing making peace your past and make your present life the best it can be. I admire you for your getting clean and sober. That's wonderful! Keep moving forward and be a good example to others.
