I think once the brain has stopped that the person should be allowed to die with grace and diginity. My Dad did not have an advaanced directive and when he suffered a massive stroke and was brain dead, the doctors had to put him on life support by law. His body did not live long after that and he died the next day. In my heart my precious Dad was already gone though.

My dad had a massive heart attack. They revived him 2x but there was no brain activity they declared him brain dead. My mom told the Dr. and staff to let him go. I don't think that anyone that is brain dead should be put on life support it only makes it worse for the family. They then have to decided to let the person "die" again.

If the brain is dead then the person is gone. The family then has to make the choices about life support.I wouldn't want to be kept on life suport, and my family knows this. There are families that keep their loved ones on life suport for extended periods of time,it is a matter of individual values.

The patient that is brain dead, I would think would like to be put to rest. They are of no good to them self or anyone else at this state. Their right is to be put to rest and not cause a financial burden or hardship on their family.

from what i see, if they don't have a living will... their rights are to be in a tug of war between right and wrong.. what one side of the family thinks is right and what the other side and their lawyers thinks is right...

and what the politicians who are in dire need of re-election think is right..

it's horrible.

rights... i hate to think of all that drama and there's this lump what once was a being with hobbies, laughter, children, dreams, hopes, wishes and of course so on and on....
lying there with no say... rotting in the myst of anger, greed, fear and politics.

i guess we all must plan way ahead?

i guess it depends. sometimes pulling the plug is easy other times it's unimaginable to what can come with that decision.

You have none, unless you have living will, except the obvious ones of comfort, medical attention, and empathy. It is up to your closest living relative if you haven't made preparations.
