Authoritarianism allows their cronies and war profiteers to make more money without interference by the public. If he can make people fearful (of terrorists) and completely close down public influence (which is undemocratic) then he and his cronies can continue to get their way.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! Why do you liberals always spin and make up this $hit!? Republicans want LESS government. Democrats are the ones who want MORE "gubament" and expect the "gubament to solve everything." What is going on right now is due to 9/11. How long it lasts really depends on whether or not you liberals have the stomach to do what is necessary and rid the world of the terrorists. As long as you think you can ignore all the terrorist problems, or make friends with them, and it will all just go away, the "gubament" will be intrusive as fighting terrorist threats requires intrusive measures.

They don't. That's just a left wing web-site playing politics. But, you probably knew that. By the way, the "progressive" agenda is all about socialism - the ultimate government intrusion into economic life.

Because they are miserable people who hate their own lives and worship a god that hates people even more than they do. They are the source of the expression ‘misery loves company’. Since they are miserable and unhappy – they insist (by coercion and force, if necessary) that everyone be miserable and unhappy.
They lay awake sleepless over worry that someone, somewhere, might be happy or even having fun. They think happy people are somehow devilish and, therefore, better dead

Yeah, we are in a war with the home-grown terrorist traitors she's talking about.
And if it were up to Republicans we would not have made any immediate sacrifices in WW II, since they were the ones that wanted to hide at home. FDR had to pull America kicking and screaming into the wars with Germany and Japan.
Damn lucky we had a Democratic president at such a critical time - just the opposite of the last 6 years.

Because they see their Republican Party strengthening its hold around peoples necks. And, they are so pathetic because they lack any imagination other than Machiavellian power.
The Republican Party under Bush has dumped honesty, courage and human insight into governance. It is a sad situation, but people may not be so gullible this election.
We will see in five weeks.

Because they are all so used to living in gated communities that don't have to deal with crime, low education funding, minorities, or diversity. (just like government now)

Because they're scared, they live in constant fear of the unknown. They need big mother to make them behave and big brother to watch over them.
