Get out your periodic table. Follow down the table (a group) below hydrogen and you will find lithium and below is sodium and potassium. Elements at the top of the table are most chemically active and become less active towards the bottom of the table. However all of the elements in a group are similar in reactivity...use the periodic table and you can work out what elements share common properties.

Simailar chemical properties will be shown by Sodium, Lithium and Potassium as they belongs to alkali metals and have valency of one. whereas Carbon, nitrogen and oxygen belongs to different groups in the periodic table. Nitrogen as gas is ver stable in itself but it is not so with oxygen.

Elements in the same group of the Periodic Table will have fairly similar properties as the valence electron structure of each element is similar (in this case, all have one electron in their highest energy level s orbital, which is easily lost to form a +1 ion). This is not the case with C, N, and O, which have very different chemical properties.
