SPIDER
'If you wish to live and thrive, let the spider run alive'. This may be a familiar saying and in the Middle Ages spiders were highly prized. It was considered the height of good breeding and sanitation to have spiders in the house as they served the useful purpose of getting rid of any flies which carried many dreaded diseases.
If you were lucky enough to see a spider spinning a web then it was considered a sure sign that within a short amount of time you would receive new clothes. Webs have long been said to have the power to stop bleeding from a wound if laid over it. It is thought that this belief stems from the Bible and how the baby Jesus was hidden from Herod's soldiers in such a way.
In fact many of us today are still drawn by one of the most common of all beliefs in the 'money spider' - to find one dangling from your clothes or person was thought to be a sure sign of imminent prosperity in a venture.
The appearance of a web that was broken or was very small and unevenly made was thought to indicate that a terrible storm was about to arrive according to medieval weather lore.
When Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland (UK) 1306-29, was a fugitive it is said that he waited in a room, for his pursuers believing that the fight to save Scotland was at an end. He was ill, ready to accept defeat. Dangling from one of the roof beams was a spider spinning a web and attempting to secure it between seven beams. The spider struggled for some time with the seventh strand. Bruce watched closely and felt his strength return and his faith grow when the spider finally attached the web. This he took to be an omen that perhaps through hard toil success will be the outcome. It certainly affected Bruce as he came out from hiding and went on to ensure a separate identity for Scotland.

Yes we are as it is the last burst of warmth before winter and all things are trying to store up food to last through till the return of spring. And some of the smaller ones are trying to find warm places to winter over either in hibernation or hiding in unused spots that have enough warmth for them to stay in and not be disturbed.
Their are some superstitions attached with spiders . Use your search engine to find them. there are both good and bad myths about them as there are with most everything else.
just like bats have good and bad myths attached to them . both help to keep down the more dangerous pests.that are also running around.
All you have do is find out how to recognize the non poisonous ones from the poisonous ones just like snakes.

If you see spiders more than just during a certain time of year or in your dreams, this could be a sign that the spider is one of your totem animals. Since it is that time of year to see them it just means there are spiders around. If you see them more often then usual and you have taken the precautionary steps to exterminate then you may in fact have encountered your totem animal. I myself have the spider as a totem. I have arachnophobia though, so it comes to me in my dreams. The spider is the weaver of secret knowledge and the bringer of wisdom. When the season is over see if the spider still tries to make contact, if so meditate on the issue to confirm weather you indeed have spider as a totem animal.

Off the top of my head, spiders can symbolize cleverness, manipulation, industriousness, etc. The poisonous ones are generally considered pretty sinister... The black widow is usually used as a symbol of a dangerous woman.
As for mythology, there's Athena & Arachne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachne in that, spiders might symbolize skillfulness and reckless pride

No, my dear, it just depends in the area you live. Spiders are all over outside where I live, in the morning when my daughter goes to get in the car there is always a spider with a web running up my tree. We just brush it off. If you have plants, trees or shrubbery around, you can find them there. Just get a spray bomb and try to get rid of them. They have nothing to do with sins. Just watch out for one that has like an orange color on top, those bite and can give you an infection where bitten. Better yet call an exterminator if possible. OK?

They are a Sign, at least where I live, of autumn. They proliferate in response to the increasing amount of other bugs which have grown in population over the summer. Typically I'll get some "12-gauge" spiders hanging around the house for the next month or so until it gets cold.
"12-gauge" meaning the size of shotgun I'd want if I were to take one on.

I'm not aware of any superstitions or myths surrounding spiders, especially during spider season aka fall. Sounds like you need to bug bomb your house and spray some bug away outside your house. I had a horrible infestation of spiders around my house last year and I sprayed, and they didn't come back yet this year. Good luck!
