well, there are many reasons for this.
first of all some people have a longing inside themselves to please others, and want to make sure that they give them the right answers. they want to give them as much detail as possible, because they think the more they write the better their answer will be.
this leads me onto another reason. some people just want lots of points so they can get to level two. so they think that by writing heaps they will be awarded as best answer and receive 10 points instead of a meagre 2.
another reason why some people write such long answers to answer simple questions is because they have nothing better to do. they have no social life and spend what boring life they do have on the computer pretending to do homework when they are really chatting up strangers on MSN and looking at p0rn - because they cant get a real girl or guy.
These lonely people feel that when they answer a question they have made a friendship - but this pathetic feeling only lasts a few minutes so they have to answer more questions and more questions until their fingers fall off and they die from repetitive strain injury or whatever.
they are also generally overweight, because they eat rubbish and stay on the computer all day not exercising.
so inconclusion, people who give long answers are retarded computer nerds who have no life and no friends, and want to please others by staying on their fat ar$es and using as little energy as possible.

This is called Yahoo Answers that's why. some people actually research the question to give an intelligent answer. Others voice opinions or knowledge from personal experience. Some are always long winded as part of their personality.
