I recently moved to a new home. The post in front states
original Plat from the 1816s. How do I go about finding
info on my new home. The neighbors don't have a clue,
just a house to them. What they call my crawl space,
is made with river stone, mud. You can stand up in it.
and it is very cold. Even when it was 95 out side.

There will probably be a lot of information available on a home that old. A "title abstract" will tract the deed through every change of ownership the property has gone through. I have bought property that refered to the land as having once belonged to France and conveyed to the United States in the Louisania Purchase. You can have the abstract done by a title search company, but it will probably cost you a couple of hundred dollars.

I think the best source of free information is your local historical society. They are likely to have old photos of your house and information on the people who lived in it. They can steer you to other sources of information such as your local newspaper archives and your local library.

By the way, it is a good idea to scrapbook all of your findings. If you ever decide to sell the house, the prospective owners may be quicker to make a buying decision if you offer them the houses' history.

Good luck with your search for information.

In 1816, that's what's called a "refridgerator". If it's really that old you need to get it on the national register of historic homes or some such thing

I am actually jealous, I love those old homes. Need to go to the city hall of records, plan on spending some time there. They will have the date built, who built it, past owners and any generic history in it. I would not suggest applying to historical home association, They do help with repairs, but you have to leave the house as original as possible. When I went to list my home in K.C., they told us that we could have central air put in our house!
Good Luck and enjoy

Sounds neat. Do you have to do lots of work on it? It must be well built to withstand that long a time.
