by getting a mohawk, I would not be TRYING to mock native american culture. why is it so bad? my intentions arent bad so why is it such a big deal?

If you want a moehawk, get a moehawk! I'm with you all the way, because I, too, am into crazy hairstyles. :)

Im 14 as well. And well I would personally not get a mohawk myself. Before you get it you should think about if you are willing to have to hair like that for quite a while. Also, are you sure you people at school or your friends wont make fun of you. I know I should be telling you that it dosent matter what ppl say. But you are 14 just like me and even my best friends would freak out if I got a mohawk. Of course it also depends how your style.
Im a prep. If you want to stand out then instead of getting a mohawk I think you should like cut your hair short and dye it red or like a black/blue color. Last years I dyed my hair red. and cut my hair up to my shoulders. && everyone really liked it. I know you said that you wouldnt change your mind but w/e.
Oh and btw. ive never heard about that mohawks mock indian culture. but w/e. Umm unless you live in an area where there are alot of indians

=) gretter

My advice is to give yourself an OUT with this idea. It's only hair, and it will grow back. But give yourself a time limit ... like a month or so. If you decide to do this haircut, give yourself permission to change it after a month.

My son wanted to grow a "tail" -- and started three years ago, at the beginning of third grade. It can be a pain to take care of a certain hairstyle, even a little thing like a skinny braid down the back. (Especially now in middle school, when he needs to shower more often. Hairstyles are time consuming.) He always gives himself 6 months -- and decides at that point if he wants to continue for another 6 months. He feels better knowing that it's no big deal and he can cut it off whenever he wants.

It's important for you to have a hairstyle that is comfortable to who you are -- not to have to keep up a certain style just for appearance's sake. Don't let your hairstyle be in charge of who you are.

You're right, I'm just some stranger with nothing better to do. You stay honest! And if you decide to do something like a mohawk, give yourself permission to change your mind down the road. Don't become "the girl with the mohawk" -- just be you, with or without the mohawk.

And try to figure out ahead of time just how much work it's going to take to keep that mohawk up. Do you give yourself enough time before school? It would take longer, you know. Is there anything you like to do that would be harder to do with a mohawk? Better think it through. But remember, it's just hair.

In my opinion...depending on your facial features I would look into a chelsea hawk first before a mohawk.... they are a little more girly looking... then again some females will look good regardless. I guess I can't really say how it would look because Im not sure how you look.... but I have known some females with mohawks in my years and all have looked good. The only thing I would look into is your school might have hair issues.... although if you did it and it was against policy I dont think they could do much but shave it off... anyways I digress.... I say if its what you want go for it... and wear it proud.... and check out the chelsea hawk.... if you can't find pics I might be able to for you.

if you really want a mohawk, get a mohawk. don't think about what other people say, becuase i've tried doing that and you can't do anything because someone out there is gonna think you're crazy. So go for it!

Do you really want a Mohawk or are you just in need of attention?

From reading the list, most are saying "Go for it" However I believe in respecting other people and their culture. Your getting a Mohawk is disrespectful of native cultures. How would you like your heritage mocked?

the reason it would be disrespectful to the Native American culture is that only warriors who have been into battle may have mohawks, wear real feathers or possess any parts of any birds such as eagles, hawks, etc....

I think you should get a mohawk if that is what you like. You should not worry about what other people will think of your hair because it is your hair and if you like it that way that is the way you should wear it.

hunnie dont worry about what other people are going to think of you.... you do what you wanna do as long as its alright with your parents and obviously it is....is it going to be a full fledged mohawk or are you going to still have hair on the side and fix your hair into a mohawk??? i think it would be cuter on a girl if you had a full head of hair and then fixed it into a mohawk instead of buzzing your hair off on the sides.... good luck
