I got my first car at sixteen. The insurance came out of my savings until I got a job. I got a 2000 Toyota Echo that has less than 10,000 miles on it. It is a way awsome car.

In 1990 when I was 16, my dad got a brand new car and gave me his beat up Hyundai GLS. It have 180,000 miles on it when got it. It shook like a mo fo, so bad in fact that I had to put it in nuetral if I sat at a stop light. That didn't stop the shaking mind you , just made it shake less. If I was getting on the freeway, I had to pray as I merge because that thing went 0 to 60 in 20 minutes. The AC was busted and the radio had been stolen, so I had a cheap azz little boom box that I played mixed tapes on.

But to ease my pain and embarassment, my dad did pay for my insurance and my gas. However as an adult now, I might help my son get a used car, and he would deinfately have to pay for his insurance and gas himself.

I was 16. And it was my parents old car. They were ready for another car so I asked if I could have their old one. I really liked the car. It was a black Oldsmobile Cutlass. I didn't pay the insurance on the car until I was working full time. But I had to pay for everything else. Plates, gas, oil changes and so on.

I was 12. I got a 1959 Ford ranchwagon with a 223cid straight 6 and a three speed manual.
The car did not run and I had to rebuild the engine myself (with a little help from my Dad and older brothers).
I couldn't drive it on the road until I was 14.5 and got my license.
I always paid my own insurance, gas, repairs.

I got my first car when I got my first reliable job at 18 years old... my dad paid for the car and I now pay for the insurance and upkeep of the car (including gas) Its a 1996 vw gti (got it summer 2005) for $3000, and $2000 worth of tune up and preventative maintence to get me started. I love the car, but its definately a challenge to take care of a 10 year old car and get through college.

15, right before I got my permit. In 2002, it was a 1991 Honda Accord $5500. Power windows and locks. My parents and I each paid for half, and I paid the insurance, about $110 a month. I really really liked the car, but I totalled it last year.

16. It was a 1962 Renault Dauphne, used car. My Dad bought it for me for $250. He bought it so I could go to work. Otherwise, he would not have bought it. I guess he paid the insurance at first, but back then, it was much cheaper. Everything was cheaper. This car had a 23 hp rear engine, and you could actually crank start this car, just like in the old movies. It was probably the last crank start car made (the Renault). Of course, that was just for emergencies, when the battery would go low. But it did work! Saved me out of many situations. Had a tiny hole in the bumper that went directly into the crankshaft.

I loved that car.
