Only when they absolutely need it. Bathing guinea pigs too often can really dry out their skin. You'll want to use a special shampoo that is formulated for them (or bunnies).

IMPORTANT: Do NOT use human shampoo (even baby), they contain chemicals and other agents that can HARM guinea pigs.

Make sure not to get any shampoo or water in their ears. In fact just avoid the face all together. It is best to bathe them in a sink with about an inch or two of warm water. You should place a mat or face cloth in the sink as well for their comfort. Then rinse them real well.

After wards, towel dry them off completely or use a blow dryer on a low setting (but not too close to them). Make sure it doesn't get too hot.

Do NOT place them back in their cage until they are completely dry or they can become sick with a cold or other respiratory illness (which they can be highly susceptible of). Keep them in a warm area as well until they are dry (no fans or drafts).

The best web site I know of for guinea pig info is http://guineapigcages.com You can pretty much find anything you want to know about guinea pigs right there.

i use mane and tail on them or baby shampoo. 2" of water and a hand for them to put there 2 little piggie on. If it's really cold. i put 3 warm towels and get the blow dryer. a bath once every 3 weeks is fine. just change the cage every other day and the piggie shouldn't be stinky at all. If you have a Petsmart or a Petco they have dry shampoo that smells yummy. all you do it spinkle it on the fur (be careful of getting it in the eyes) and use a baby brush to brush out. and walla! a good smelling pig without the water.

Use the gentlest shampoo available. I used baby shampoo on my rats which I diluted. Bath them in less than two inches of warm water in a sink. Have towels ready and be prepared to keep them warm until they are dry.

There is a specially formulated shampoo made for guinea pigs, ferrets, etc. It's called "Squeaky Clean". You can probably get it at your vet's office if your vet sees that kind of pet, or Petsmart/Petco- they would definitely have it.

Guinea pigs are very prone to colds. So you don't want to get it to wet. I would suggest getting the moist bath wipes that are out on the market for small animals. They have them with or without deoderant.

Guinea pigs generally stay clean if the bedding is kept clean but if bathing is necessary, use baby shampoo and only once a month or so. Please do not use cedar bedding.
