A valiant is one who is brave. This quote means that cowards feel like they are going to die many times(maybe because they are ashamed), but brave people only feel this way when they are actually dying.

Valiant means to be brave, so the brave only taste of death or only die once, which is at the time they expire or pass away. On the other hand cowards just die in their shaking boots, they get scared all of the time, any time just a little courage is needed, so basically they are imagining the worst outcome for everything and fearing it, often even fearing for their lives-scared to death every time something necessary but uncertain and even unnessary comes up to challenge them. Every time that happens, the coward is afraid of the outcome, scared to death; so inside the coward dies many times before his life is actually called away from him but the brave go forward into everything fearlessly so the only death they know is the one that occurs when their time on earth is over. They die but once.

A coward will experience death many times because of guilt and shame that their lack of courage has caused. However a valiant (brave) person only experiences death once, and that is when they physically die.

a coward is so fearful that they feel the fear of death which can actually feel like dying. so they die many times. a valiant person is brave and has no fear so they only "taste death but once" when it actually happens.
